Category: Broadcaster's Lounge
Hi everyone. earlier this month, the 102.7 station in San Antonio changed one of their rock-formatted stations to a Jack FM station. I've never liked that new rock station anyway for several reason, but I love this newest station, and I've only started really listening to it today! *smiles* Now this station plays a litterally large variety of music. Some songs you can still find on other stations, but others are those they've stopped playing since a long time ago. In fact I'm hoping I can find this one song I've been looking for that I would recognize but don't know the artist or even any of the worrds to. *smiles* Besides this station, I also like 94.1, which plays what they call "old school", (pop, rap, and R&b I think). And I also like 104.5 (which plays classic rock), and occasionally some other stations.
BBC Radio 4 and Classic FM as they play a good deal of Maria Callas and Luciano Pavarotti.
I just had to rave about this new station first, but my question to y'all is, what is your favorite radio station and why? I know many people are getting their own selections of music over the Internet to listen to or to put on portable music players *smiles*, but still. If you didn't have that option and/or still listen to your local radio stations, what would be y'all's favorite ones and why?
radio frimley park. it's my local hospital station
The only "radio" station I really listen to would be the local college station, WKNC. It's probably the best that North Carolina has to offer, and it's one of the most powerfull college stations in the country.
The popular station we have is 97.9 WNCI Columbus, it's a good station but I really don't have a favorite, just as long as it's not twangi wang
Troy
I live in baltimore, and my favorite station is the towson college station, 89.7. it plays a lot of the singer/song writer type of music, and programs like the world cafe.
I used to like WDET in Detroit for their diverse amounts of music both on a local and international level, but they have recently switched to primarily NPR programming. That would be fine, since i like some of what npr has to offer, but we already have 2 npr stations in the area. BBC radio 1 is pretty good on the weekends, and other than that, I don't much care for comercial radio. I sure love XM satellite radio though.
Oh, and I thaught the "broadcaster's lounge" was a more appropriate category for this topic, given that it's specifically about radio. Just in case anyone was wondering why it had been moved.
Ok, just like scott, i love XM satellite Radio. I have been glued to XM ever since i got it but sometimes i toon in to comersial radio. I live in New Jersey, so i get stations from new York. I listen to 100.3 WHTZ Z100 New York. Wich is Z100. They play from, rock to rap, dance, to R And B. I also listen to the bigest spanish stations from New York. Wich are 97.9 "La Megga" and 105.9 "La calle" And just to let you all know, i was on the morning show years ago on 97.9 "la Megga" and the morning show is called El Vacilon.
hmmm....does that staion play any latin?
if it does i'd love the link
thanks
Well, I'm currently in eastern NC. I like the public radio east, there is a classical station, I think wcpe; I love "the big dawg!" It is country! I also quite enjoy the river 107.7. Let's see, living up in Seattle, loved the local country station. There was a station called the mountain. Oddly enough, quite similar to the river over here. I also liked the local college stations: KEXP, KPLU, and the one for the community college. Grin, though I absolutely love Live365! I wish I could take it on the road! Groove on!
Woah, oops! It's 100.7 the river. sheesh...grin!
100.7 the River...I love the music, but god I hate the station; it's owned by Clear Channel [Raleigh.] Still, If you're in Raleigh you can't beat KNC.
Clear channel is the main reason I no longer wish to support US comercial radio stations. I knew it would have bad consiquences the minute I read about the FCC's decision to allow for stuff like this to happen, but it's too late to turn back now. Oh well.
What's up with the clear channel business? I take it, it is a bad thing?
Clear channel owns over 1000 radio stations around the country. They're a giant company that took the "local" out of radio. Most of Clear Channel's stations are at least partly voice tracked [pre-recorded, or automated.] the bottom line, most of what you hear on the radio (Even weather reports, and fake "listener" phone calls) are pre-recorded and voice tracked by this giant company that, on CHR stations and in other formats, plays the same few "hit" songs over and over again. In this area, Clear Channel owns G105, 1061 RDU, 93.9, and 100.7 the River. That classic rocker...RDU 106.1 is almost entirely automated, with their morning show syndicated. It's worse with modern rock stations...every one of them sounds exactly the same. there's no difference between the rock station in richmond and the one in Atlanta [just an example] because the same giant company owns all of them, uses the same voice tracked DJS (Of which a lot of them pre-record their shows out of New York or the CC headquarters in Texas,) and program their automated stations with the same songs all day. clear Channel sucks.
Damn, really? That sucks! I'm going to keep my ear out for those ones now.
my facorite radio station is 102 jamz playing orlandos hottest hip hop & R&B. if it was online though it would be 24 the beat on live 365.com.
They aren't hard to find, since clear channel owns at least a few stations in every major US market. I just hope they never get too heavily involved with xm, because they do have shares in both XM and cerious.
I've noticed that as well with clear channel, a lot of automated stuff. However, they do own some stations here in columbus that do have local dj's and are not pre recorded, but like I've said I've seen lots of their stations do this.
Troy
My fav radio stations would probably be choice fm or 1 extra as they suit my musical teastes for hiphop and r&b.
Yeah, 1xtra is cool! I wish we had that here in the US.
My favorite radio station is 93.3 WMMR in Philadelphia. It is really the only rock station left in Philadelphia now. WMMR rocks!!!!
i don't really have a favorite, but the one's i listen to most are: 106.7, 98.5, and 102.7, all in san antonio.
Hmmmmmm. I really like XM, but I also like KJEE 92.9, one of the modern rock stations around here (save for their lame morning show), KITS 105.3 in San Francisco, and whenever I'm at Stanford, I like the Stanford radio station KZSU 90.1 for their variety of programming and great sports coverage. Those are a few that I really like, but I'm like a lot of you on here. I like just about anything except rap. Oh, and for those of you who can't stand Clear Channel (I don't think they're that great either), Cumulus does that to a smaller extent. I was at this one radio station here, and apparently, they work off a playlist, and they prerecord listener calls.
just listen to 1xtra on the net.
I think pre-recorded calls are the norm. Who has been in a station while hearing phone calls as they are taken? Lots of times you have a set amount for a break, and have to fit XYZ into it. Some of the live calls I heard while at BLI just wouldn't ev er fit into the break.
I like the rocker 967 kcmq columbia mo www.kcmq.com and kashe 95 out of st. louis e except there online stream blocks out comercials with this annoying tra I also like the ville out of maryville bjut there only a certain class of station so they only have local ads and kkzlx 106.7 which is nwmsu's station is ok for an lp station. I also like kxcv our npr station in maryville and kbia in columbia kclr www.clear99.com one of the country stations in columbia and kwwr country 96 www.kwwr.com is good too
I like Classic fm, radio Scotland and Saga fm in Glasgow. I also listen on line to some international stations. the website is www.blindradio.com
I still enjoy radio 1! Some of the programming on radio 538 and then also some of the programming on xfm London.
I suppose no official favorite radio station, but NHB radio has some nice little radio shows. Other than that I have not come to know any local radio stations that I like. Out of Internet Radio stations I would say that i just jump around the top list on shoutcast from ambient to classical or jazz, it all depends on my mood.
98.5 here in Sacramento, it's 98 Rock. I also like 96.9 The Eagle Classic Rock, 93.7 Jack FM, and Cool 92.1 the oldies station. Oh yeah, and V 101.1 FM the R&B station.
I wwill always have something against Jack FM because they took a legend off the air...the WCBF FM takeover. CBS Radio has admitted that Jack has all but failed, but they won't return to the stations' old formats. Dad and I both said that if we wer shareholders, we'd be selling our stocks right now.
